The games will be a 10 day event comprising 55+ different sports and over 2,400 individual events. Minimum qualifying age starts from 20 years of age. The social calendar is as full as the sporting one, with a range of leisure activities available day and night. After a busy day of competition, every night is party night at the Games Village and entertainment centre.

The Wanganui Golf Club’s Belmont Links have nearly 120 years of History, and is highly ranked in New Zealand.  It presents a real challenge for players of all abilities, and is enjoyed by all who play it, because of that challenge.
Established in 1925, the Castlecliff Golf Course is a well-groomed, par 72 Links course with a free draining sand base. The course provides an excellent challenge to all playing abilities and is now one of the longer courses in the district off the back tees. Good firm playing conditions all year round. Well defined, with flat to gently undulating fairways, easy walking. Greens are excellent and guarded by bunkers. Great sea views from around the course.
Tawhero Golf Complex is a nine hole public Wanganui golf course set in the heart of the city.  Sporting the only driving range in Wanganui, they also cater for those wanting to practice on a chipping and putting green, as well as a full game of golf for the pro enthusiasts or casuals.

The club is the oldest racecourse in the country formed in 1848 and is the oldest surviving club still racing at the original venue.  It is centrally situated, being only 5 blocks from the city centre and within walking distance from Cooks Gardens Motor Lodge!

The annual Boxing Day motorcycle races on the Cemetery Circuit first ran in 1951.  Today the event still runs on exactly the same city streets.

This busy market combines both local food producers, alongside many artistic and entrepreneurial stall holders and is a delightful example of a diverse community captured in one morning, every Saturday.

Visitors and locals are entertained by local musicians as they browse and buy local specialities, such as Rewena bread, goat cheese, flowers, handmade croissants, crafts, garden ornaments, the list is endless.

Greyhound racing is great entertainment and we invite you to come along and join in the fun. Racing is held predominately on Wednesday afternoons (12:00pm-3:30pm) and Friday nights (4:30pm-9:00pm) and includes all grades, running over distances of 305m, 520m, 645m 755m and 520m (h).
